HANNIBAL, Mo. -- Hannibal School Board will host a presentation about school safety at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Roland Fine Arts Center at Hannibal-LaGrange University.

Peter Langman, author of "Why Kids Kill," will address the warning signs of school shooters. In his book, Langman examines 10 shooters and explains their typology and psychological profiles. The district hopes this presentation will educate parents, teachers, administrators and students about how to recognize a potential danger. Langman has been interviewed by CNN and Fox News, and has also been featured in the New York Times, the Washington Post and USA Today.

This is one of several actions the Hannibal School Board has taken after the December shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn. The administration has worked closely with the Hannibal Police Department to identify security deficiencies with buildings. The board is currently developing a timeline for building improvements, which includes new intercoms and doors.
