Seventy-five Illinois companies, including two in Adams County, were nominated for the 2013 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, which recognizes employers that support their employees who are members of the National Guard and Reserve.

Knapheide Manufacturing and the Mendon School District were nominated.

The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense operational committee, receives nominations from Guard and Reserve Service members or family members acting on their behalf.

Employers selected as semifinalists assist Guard Reserve employees through formal and informal initiatives.

Finalists are expected to be announced later this month.
