The Bayview Bridge was closed for about 20 minutes Monday night after a man was reportedly dangling from the rail.

A press release from the Quincy Police Department indicated the 911 Center received two calls regarding a male climbing over the rail on the Bayview Bridge. Quincy police were sent, and they found a 54-year-old male standing over the rail, threatening to jump.

Officers talked with the man, and at 6:05 p.m., the subject walked over to the police officers and was taken into protective custody. He was transported to Blessing Hospital for evaluation.

"It was enough to make a traffic nightmare," Sgt. Shannon Pilkington said.

The Bayview Bridge was closed during the incident and reopened shortly after the subject was taken into custody.
