Gary W. Evans is the Circulation Director of The Quincy Herald-Whig and the founding principal of International Media Consulting LLC, (IMC), a consulting firm that assists news media with strategic planning and execution to build their readership and subscribers.
Prior to establishing IMC in 2011, Gary served as Director of Circulation Marketing for USA TODAY in McLean, Va. He was responsible for the sales, marketing, customer service and national distribution of the daily newspaper with 300,000-plus subscribers.
While at USA TODAY, from 2005 to 2011, Gary was a Director on the Board of the Literacy Council of Northern Virginia, an organization that trains volunteers to teach adults how to read, write, speak and understand English. He served on the Executive Committee as Vice-President for two years, then President for two years.
From 2007 to 2009, Gary served on the Alumni Executive Board of ELON University in Elon, N.C. The Board advises university officials on matters related to academics, alumni engagement and philanthropy.
Gary holds a BA in History from ELON University. He was a member of the Pi Gamma Mu Honor Society and a founding member, and president, of the Lambda-Lambda Chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He remains active with the group by serving as Chairman of the Board of Advisors of the Alumni Association.
Gary is a member of the Direct Marketing Association, the National Press Club, and the International NewsMedia Marketing Association. He serves on the board of directors of the D.C. Chapter of the Society of Consumer Affairs Professionals. He is a frequent speaker at industry events on the topics of audience and media strategy and development.
