Freiburg keeps pace at state amateur

Quincy's Parker Freiburg shot a 1-over 73 in the second round of the 83rd Illinois State Amateur and moved into a tie for 13th in the 130-player field.

The field has been cut to the top 32, plus ties, for the final two rounds, which will be played consecutively Thursday at Aldeen Golf Club in Rockford, Ill.

Freiburg, who will be a senior at Illinois State University, is at 2-over 146 and trails 36-hole leader Jake Erickson, of Springfield, by six strokes. Freiburg is just three strokes out of the top five. He had 15 pars, one birdie and two bogeys on his card Wednesday at Aldeen Golf Club in Rockford, Ill.
