Quincy motorcyclist dies in crash at 18th and Maine

The Quincy Police Department continues to investigate a Monday night crash that killed a motorcyclist.

A Quincy officer attempted to stop a motorcyclist at 9:46 p.m. for a traffic violation at 18th and Broadway. The motorcyclist fled south on 18th at a high rate of speed and struck a sport utility vehicle driving west on Maine Street at 18th.

The motorcyclist, identified as Carl A. Wollbrink, 21, was transported to Blessing Hospital by ambulance and pronounced dead at 10:06 p.m.

The driver of the SUV, Martha R. Pappenfoht, 55, of Quinc, was transported to Blessing Hospital by ambulance and treated.

Officers were assisted by the Quincy Fire Department and the Illinois State Police.
