Area Roundup: Eagles able to Poore it on in fourth quarter to advance

Royce Poore decided he didn't want the North Shelby boys basketball team playing for the championship of its own tournament.

The Knox County senior forward scored 14 points in the fourth quarter Wednesday night, helping the Eagles finish off the Raiders 71-65 in the semifinals of the North Shelby Tournament in Shelbyville, Mo.

Poore finished with a game-high 35 points, going 16 of 18 from the free-throw line. He also grabbed seven rebounds.

Johnson had 13 points and 12 rebounds for Knox County, while Donovan Edwards added 11 points.

Lucas Daniel scored 18 points for the Raiders, who never led in the second half. Jacob Rich added 17 points, while Josiah Linberger had 13.

Tony Lenzini Tournament: Kyle Fulton scored a game-high 26 points as Monroe City beat Van-Far 50-40 to move into the consolation championship.

Terron Ritter made four 3-pointers and scored 12 points for the Panthers.



North Shelby Tournament: A strong fourth quarter pushed North Shelby past LaPlata 46-41 and into the consolation championship.

Mercedes Nute hit five 3-pointers for a game-high 15 points for the Lady Raiders. Kaylee Smith finished with 12 and Abbey Rush had 10 for North Shelby.

In a semifinal matchup, second-seeded Marceline outlasted third-seeded Marion County 53-37.

Danielle Maxwell led the Lady Mustangs with 14, while Destiny Johnson added 10.

Tony Lenzini Tournament: Kenzie Grossmann scored a game-high 14 points, as Mark Twain beat Van-Far 32-23 to advance to the consolation finals.

Kaelee Ogle finished with seven points for the Lady Tigers.

North Greene 62, Griggsville-Perry 33: The Lady Tornadoes struggled to score in the home loss. Allyson Bingham led Griggsville-Perry with 11 points.



John Wood Community College 74, Lincoln 66: The Trail Blazers won their seventh consecutive game with a MidWest Athletic Conference victory on the road.

TJ Tisdell led JWCC with 28 points and 19 rebounds.



John Wood Community College 78, Lincoln 42: Shea O'Brien scored a game-high 30 points as the Lady Blazers earned a MidWest Athletic Conference road victory.

JWCC forced 30 turnovers, leading to 33 points.

Grace Luce added 14 points and Ashlyn Fore finished with 13 for the Lady Blazers (8-11, 1-1).



QHS wins three: Michael Peters (132), Parker Schutte (152) and Matt Ballard (220) each won three matches as the Blue Devils won three duals, beating Troy Triad 52-22, Altong 36-35 and Belleville East 54-24.
