GRIGGSVILLE, Ill. — No one was injured Friday night after a semi-trailer fire shut down part of Interstate 72.

According to a release from the Illinois State Police, troopers responded to a fire on Interstate 72 west at milepost 40 near Griggsville in Pike County at 9:47 p.m. The driver of the truck, whose name was not released, noticed the rear of the trailer had caught fire near the tires. He parked the truck on the shoulder of the road and detached the truck trailer before it became fully engulfed by the fire.

The semi-trailer and its contents, rolls of plastic sheeting, were a complete loss. The interstate was closed to westbound traffic for about an hour.

The Pike County Sheriff’s Department, the Griggsville/North Pike Fire Department, the Pittsfield Fire Department and the Illinois Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
