COLUMBIA, Mo. - Two northeast Missouri high school basketball teams are making an appearance at the Missouri state tournament.

The Canton boys basketball team is the first in the history of the boys basketball program to reach the state tournament. The Tigers (27-1) will face Iberia (28-1) at 8:20 p.m. Thursday in the Class 2 state semifinals at the University of Missouri's Hearnes Center. The winner of that game will play for the state title on Saturday; the loser will play for third place on Friday.

The Marion County girls team is making its fifth appearance at a state tournament in six years. The Lady Mustangs (17-9) faces defending state champion Walnut Grove (26-4) at 1:40 p.m. Thursday in teh Class 1 state semifinals at Mizzou Arena. The winner of that game will play for the state title on Saturday; the loser will play for third place on Friday.
