WYACONDA, Mo. -- A Gorin man escaped serious injury when his truck was struck by a freight train Tuesday.

According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Lonny J. Sears, 47, was driving a 1998 Dodge Ram pickup north on County Road 113 about three miles southwest of Ashton. At about 9:58 a.m. Sears came to a railroad crossing and failed to stop in time to avoid a collision with a 2013 General Electric locomotive driven west by Eugene Woodfin, 47.

The truck was demolished and was to be removed by the owner.

No arrest report or injury report were available from the Highway Patrol, but local law enforcement officers on the scene said Sears escaped serious injury.
