The Quincy Notre Dame girls soccer team couldn't capitalize on three solid scoring opportunities during the second half of a scoreless tie with Kirkwood Friday at the Lou Fusz Soccer Complex in St. Louis, Mo.
Midway through the second half, a shot by the Lady Raiders' Cassidy Foley ricocheted off the crossbar. During the next 10 minutes, the Pioneers' keeper deflected two QND shots over the cross.
"We had chances in both halves," Lady Raiders coach Mark Longo said. "There was a strong wind throughout the game and it was very cold. We were going into the wind the first half which was difficult."
QND (3-0-1) outshot Kirkwood 8-7.
Lyon 10, Hannibal-LaGrange 2: The Trojans dug a deep hole in an American Midwest Conference loss at Batesville, Ark.
HLGU trailed 6-0 before scoring its first run in the top of the fifth when Anderson Lafee hit a leadoff double and later scored on Harry Bennett's single.
The Trojans' other run was scored in the eighth when Edwin Dominguez scored on Brandon Bennett's groundout with the bases loaded.
Drew Morecraft finished 3 for 3 for HLGU (9-24-1, 3-13), which had nine hits.
Quincy 5, William Jewell 4: The Hawks won their first Great Lakes Valley Conference match of the season at Liberty, Mo.
The teams split the singles matches. Ian Hinkamper of Quincy won his No. 1 singles match by beating Bryan Thomas 6-3, 6-3. At No. 2 singles, Lane Luhring of Quincy beat Jimmy Hunter 6-4, 6-3. At No. 4 singles, the Hawks' Ethan Arns beat Michael Rawat 6-3, 6-1.
Hinkamper and Luhring won their No. 1 doubles match by dispatching Thomas and Rawat 8-3. At No. 3 doubles, Quincy's Chris Bueler and Cole Anderson beat Max Cooper and Chris Reimer 8-2.
Quincy is now 9-8 overall, 1-2 in the GLVC.
William Jewell 7, Quincy 2: The Lady Hawks won a singles match and a doubles match during a GLVC contest on the road.
Anna Morrissey and Morgan McGinnis teamed up to win their No. 3 doubles match by beating Savannah Drew and Lauren Huddlestun 8-5.
Amy Kuhle won her No. 1 singles match when Kristen Stivers of William Jewell was forced to retire.
The Lady Hawks are now 12-5 overall, 1-2 in the GLVC.
Lewis d. Quincy: The Hawks were swept in straight sets 25-14, 25-13, 25-11 in Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association action at Romeoville, Ill.
Jack Gamache led QU with eight kills.
The No. 11-ranked Flyers hit .441 for the match while the Hawks were held to a .013 mark.
Ian Lawson had six digs for QU (13-15, 0-11) and Brian Rogan had 17 assists.
