Culver-Stockton leads HAAC Tournament after first day

The Culver-Stockton men's golf team enters the final day of the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament in the lead by eight strokes.

The Wildcats shot 605 over the first 36 holes played Monday at Indian Foothills Golf Course in Marshall, Mo. The final 18 holes will be played Tuesday.

Baker is in second place with a 613, while Avila is third with a 619.

Tyler Barr is leading Culver-Stockton after shooting 149 -- one shot off the lead -- putting him in second place. Ryan Keller is tied for third with a 152, Chris Neal is tied for fifth with a 153 and Drew Horner is tied for 18th with a 157.

Kelley Thompson of Baker leads individually with a 148.


CCC Tournament: Palmyra placed the top three individuals to win the conference tournament at Jackson Park Golf Course in Palmyra, Mo.

Noah Wilson earned medalist honors by shooting a 3-over-par 73, while Hunter Baggett and Blake Hobart shot 75s to tie for second with Dallas Castagna of Louisiana. Trevor DeHaan rounded out Palmyra's scoring with a 77.

The only other area golfer among the top 10 was Taylor Leftwich of Palmyra, who tied for ninth with a 79.

The three teams following Palmyra in the team standings were Macon (326), Centralia (327) and Louisiana (348). Following Castagna for the Bulldogs was Justin Lenz, who tied for 11th with an 80.

Grant O'Bryan of Monroe City and Zane Campbell of Clark County tied for 14th with 81s.

Scotland County wins: The Tigers shot 193 to win a five-team meet at the LaPlata Golf Course in LaPlata, Mo.

Scotland County edged Putnam County and Milan, which finished with a 206.

Tristen Hilpert led Scotland County by finishing fifth individually with a 10-over-par 46. Teammate Brice Cowell shot a 47 and Ryan Slaughter shot a 48.
