Loren and Elaine Simon

Loren and Elaine Simon of 1988 Ill. 104, Liberty, will mark their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner at Sprout's Inn in Quincy, hosted by their children and grandchildren.

Mr. Simon and the former Elaine Boone were married July 11, 1964, in Plainville United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Simon is a daughter of the late Leo and Gladys Weisinger Boone. Mr. Simon is a son of the late Oscar and Vesta Drebes Simon.

They are the parents of Merle (Daphne) Simon of Liberty and Sheryl (Chris) Miller of Perry. They have two grandsons.

Mr. Simon retired in 2010 after 45 years of farming. He enjoys watching baseball games and riding his golf cart.

Mrs. Simon retired in 2013 after 27 years as a day care provider and 71/2 years as a cook at Liberty School. She is a member of the M&M Girls and enjoys reading, mowing lawns and attending their grandsons' activities.

They are members of St. Peter Evangelical Church of Lost Prairie.

The couple met at Liberty Lanes bowling alley. Loren said to Elaine's brother, Norman, "For 10 cents I'd ask your sister out." Norman reached in his pocket and gave Loren a dime.
