Peggy Lambert couldn't believe it when the scratch-off lottery ticket she bought indicated that she had won $100,000.

"I looked at the cashier and said, I think I made a mistake, or I went blind,' " Lambert said. "I thought it was a joke and that I made a mistake. It couldn't have been that much."

Lambert won $100,000 with a winning 50X the Cash instant ticket that she bought at the Ayerco Convenience Center, 2401 State, on June 20.

She still thought that she hadn't won that big a jackpot when she turned the ticket into the Illinois Lottery Prize Center in Springfield on June 24.

"That's when it finally hit me," Lambert said.

A lifetime resident of Quincy, she used a penny to scratch her winning ticket.

Lambert bought the ticket when she learned that another customer had struck out on three straight tickets. Typically, she plays cheaper tickets.

"So I thought, I could just win my $20 back and have fun," she said. "It did pay off ... really well."

Lambert, a home care nurse with Blessing Home Care, does not have big plans for what she will do with the prize. She plans to pay off bills and invest the rest.

"It's not like you won millions or anything else," she said. "It just makes your life a little bit easier."

Ayerco Convenience Center will receive a $1,000 bonus, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling the winning ticket. The Illinois Lottery's 50X the Cash is an instant-win game with more than $45 million in prizes ranging from $50 to $100,000. A scratch-off ticket costs $20.
