126th annual Clark County Fair starts Tuesday

KAHOKA, Mo. -- The 126th annual Clark County Fair will begin Tuesday and run through Sunday at the fairgrounds.

The fifth annual Open Art Show is for three age groups -- 12 and under, 13-19 and adults. They will compete in painting oil/acrylic, watercolor, charcoal, pencil graphite/colored, photography, sculpture and wood. Cash and ribbon awards will be presented for three places in each category, plus the People's Choice and Overall Best of Show.

The exhibit will be open Wednesday through Sunday during regular building hours. A $1 entry fee will be charged for each item entered. For more information, call Marvis Trump at 660-341-5650.

The barbecue contest will be held Saturday. Judging will begin at 5 p.m. Participants must bring everything they need to prepare their specialties. There will be a category for youths age 16 and under. The Cook's Challenge also will be held. It allows cooks to create their own appetizer as well as being their own judge. Harness racing will begin at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. It is sponsored by the Clark County A&M Fair Association and the Missouri Harness Horsemen's Association. Clark County is the only place to see harness racing in the state of Missouri.

The Ladies Hat Contest will be held before the harness races. Ladies should wear their old favorite, decorated, or newly created hat to the races. Ribbon awards will be given for first, second and third place in categories for children 12 and under and adults. Everyone participating must register at the Commercial Building. Other fair highlights are:

Wednesday: hypnotist and palm reading at 7 p.m., washer tournament at 6 p.m., karaoke contest at 7 p.m.

Thursday: bull riding and barrel racing at 8 p.m., karaoke finals and "Dark Horse" from 7-11 p.m.

Friday: pedal tractor pull at 5:30 p.m.; truck and tractor pull at 7 p.m., "Rock Steady" from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Saturday: farm and antique tractor pull at 10 a.m., demolition derby at 7 p.m. and "The Cheeseburgers" from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

The Jerry Germain Rides of St. Louis will be at the fair from Wednesday through Saturday.
