Host families needed for German wind ensemble

CARTHAGE, Ill. -- Host families are needed in the Carthage area in August to house members of the German Youth Wind Ensemble, Jugendorchester Wertinger.

The 54-member instrumental group, ages 13-19, will visit Carthage as part of the Blue Lake International Exchange Program and stay in private homes.

While in Carthage, the ensemble will perform one concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at Carl Sandburg College Auditorium, 1160 Buchanan. A reception in the lobby will follow the performance.

Admission is $10 for a family, $5 for adults ages 18 and up, $3 for students ages 12-17 and free for children under 12. Group rates are available. Tickets may be bought in advance from Carl Sandburg College Carthage Branch or at the door,

Jugendorchester Wertingen is one of 12 European musical groups visiting the Midwest during 2014 as part of Blue Lake's International Exchange.

Since 1969, over 10,000 high school musicians have visited 650 communities in Europe. In return, nearly 10,000 members of 550 European bands, orchestras, choirs and dance groups have come to the U.S.
