John and Karen Saxer

John and Karen Saxer of Versailles are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary from 1 to 3:30 p.m. today in St. Mary School cafeteria, 408 W. Washington, in Mount Sterling. Their children are hosting the event. Family and friends are invited; no gifts are requested.

John H. Saxer and the former Karen Wagner were married July 26, 1964, at the First Baptist Church in Timewell.

Mrs. Saxer is a daughter of Marian Wagner of Mount Sterling and the late Casper L. "Cap" Wagner. Mr. Saxer is a son of the late Roy and Luella Saxer of Versailles.

They are the parents of Rachel Saxer of Mount Sterling, Ginnie Anderson (Jerry) of Galesburg and Joe Saxer (Patti) of Jacksonville. They have six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Saxer is retired from farming and carpentry businesses.

Mrs. Saxer is retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield, and is employed by Larry Dunn Accounting Inc.

They are members of the First Christian Church in South Jacksonville.

Tony Baker recently watched a video of the 1991 Class A state championship game with his 11-year-old daughter. It had been several years since Baker, an all-stater as a senior at Pittsfield High School, had seen the game. "I sure was awful skinny, and those shorts were awful short," he said with a laugh. "But it was neat to watch. It's kind of a blur, but I can remember plays that were called in every game. It's so surreal."
