Three to vie for title of queen at Payson Old Settler's picnic

PAYSON, Ill. -- Three young women will compete Saturday for the title of 2014 Old Settler's Association queen during the 121st annual Payson Old Settler's Picnic from Friday through Sunday. The event will also include a Junior Miss Contest on Friday.

This year's theme is "Alice in Wonderland."

Queen contestants will be introduced at 5 p.m. Saturday, followed by talent competition at 6:15 p.m., evening gown competition at 8:15 p.m., introduction of past royalty, and a farewell speech by 2013 Queen Rachel Cooper at 8:45 p.m. Crowning of this year's queen will be at 9:15 p.m.

Queen contestants are:

Olivia Lynn Stotts, 20, daughter of Allen Stotts of Payson and Debby Stotts of Quincy. Talent: Dance routine to "Goodbye Alice in Wonderland" by Jewel. Sponsor: Hy-Vee No. 2 of Quincy.

Brekken Sierra Kathy Flesner, 16, daughter of Vaughn and Kathy Flesner of Payson. Talent: Piano medley. Sponsor: Flesner Floors of Payson.

Kara Ann Stotts, 18, daughter of Allen Stotts of Payson and Debby Stotts of Quincy. Talent: "Let it Go" on flute. Sponsor: Personal Finance Co. of Quincy.

Friday's Junior Miss Contest will begin with introduction of the five contestants at 5:30 p.m., followed by theme-wear competition at 7 p.m., evening gown competition and farewell address by 2013 Junior Miss Allison Helton at 8:45 p.m., and crowning of the 2014 Junior Miss at 9:15 p.m.

Junior Miss contestants are:

Sydney Nicole Schaffer, 10, daughter of Ryan and Nickie Schaffer. She will be the Queen of Hearts for the theme-wear competition. Sponsor: Her family.

Breanne Fay Taute, 11, daughter of Brian Taute of Coatsburg and Samantha Waack of Plainville. She will be the Mad Hatter for the theme-wear competition. Sponsor: Color Smash Studios.

Avery Paige Scott, 12, daughter of Jeff Scott of Quincy and Shari Benjamin of Payson. She will be Alice for the theme-wear competition. Sponsor: Paul Niehiser Racing.

Courtney Logsdon, 10, daughter of Cassie Epperson of Plainville and Bobby Logsdon of Quincy. She will be the White Queen for the theme-wear competition. Sponsor: Epperson Construction.

Abigail Renee Coonrod, 12, daughter of Bill Coonrod of Plainville and Betty Coonrod of Quincy. She will be the Queen of Hearts for the theme-wear competition. Sponsor: Churchman Plumbing and Construction.
