John Wood offers GED preparation courses

John Wood Community College's Adult Education Department is offering free general educational development preparation classes in Quincy, Pittsfield and Mount Sterling this fall. A free class in English as a second language also will be offered in Quincy.

GED preparation will be offered in Quincy at the Kinscherff Adult Education Learning Center at 122 N. Fifth. Classes will also be available at the Mount Sterling Education Center, 108 N. Capitol, and Pittsfield Education Center, 1308 W. Washington.

Days and times of the classes are:

Quincy, 9 a.m. to noon, 1 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday

Pittsfield, 10 a.m. to noon and noon to 2 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays

Mount Sterling, 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Students can choose to attend morning, afternoon or evening classes and may register to take the GED exam when ready.

The classes are free to adult residents of the JWCC district, and new students are admitted into the classes once a month.

English as a second language is open to all adult residents of the district who are not native English speakers. Classes are held Tuesday and Thursday mornings and Wednesday evenings at the main JWCC campus, 1301 S. 48th. There is no charge for the class, and books are provided at no cost.
