The National Weather Service's latest forecast calls for the Mississipi River at Quincy to reach 28.1 feet by June 18 before starting to fall. That's 4.1 feet below the record flood stage of 32.2 feet recorded on July 13, 1993, and only 0.7 feet below the previous record of 28.8 feet recorded on April 23, 1973.

Technical flood stage in Quincy is 17 feet. The river this morning was at 19.87 feet.

The crest forecast for Quincy and Hannibal, Mo., is down slightly from Tuesday's forecast. Nevertheless, Hannibal on Tuesday installed all five of its downtown flood gates.

Canton, Mo., is expected to see a crest of 25.8 feet on June 18. That's nearly 13 feet above flood stage and just 2 feet short of 1993 levels.
