GRIGGSVILLE, Ill. -- Every time Ed Logan sees the new flag flying over the Griggsville square, he's reminded of the city's ongoing downtown beautification project.

Now Logan's business is doing something to help with the project cost.

Beginning Saturday, Logan Agri-Service, Inc. will donate 2 cents per gallon for fuel sold through its 24/7 pumps at its main facility at 30571 Ill. 107 and $5 for each Clark Platinum MasterCard application that is completed and approved by the processing company. The promotion ends Dec. 31.

In a letter to Mayor Kent Goewey and the Griggsville Beautification Project, Logan said he hopes the effort will provide at least $1,000 toward the ongoing effort.

"This will really be a big help," Goewey said.

The project already has added the new flagpole, flag and clock in downtown. "There isn't a better thing your eyes can see than when you turn into Griggsville and see the flag flowing over everything. It really looks good," Goewey said.

Goewey hopes Logan's promotion will encourage more donations for the project.

"I went to the other gas stations in town. I didn't really challenge them, but I said it would be neat if everybody could do this and help the city out," he said. "It will cause a landslide. People will start giving."

Goewey said the project will cost about $400,000, including new curb and gutters in the downtown, but any donations make a difference.

"Our hope is that the community will recognize and support our donation with purchases at our facility, as well as utilize the Clark Platinum MasterCard which enables motorists to receive rebates of as much as 8 percent on fuel purchases at Clark locations throughout the area," Logan wrote in the letter.
