Preliminary hearings were set Thursday for a Quincy man and his son who were arrested in connection with a cannabis growing operation.

Dan T. McLaughlin, 54, of 620 S. 24th, and his son, Thomas B. McLaughlin, 18, appeared in Adams County court on Thursday, and their preliminary hearings were set for Aug. 19, said Gary Farha, assistant state's attorney.

The two were arrested July 22, along with Dan McLaughlin's daughter, Danielle M. McLaughlin, 21, and Taylor G. Meyers, 18, after Adams County Sheriff's Department investigators conducted a search warrant at Dan McLaughlin's residence and found drug paraphernalia.

A search also was conducted at 6022 Bitter Road, a house owned by Dan McLaughlin, where a "sophisticated cannabis growing operation" was discovered by deputies.

Dan McLaughlin had earlier been cited after his 8-foot boa constrictor went missing.

Each of the three men has been charged with possession of more than 30 grams of cannabis, production of cannabis plants and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Meyers' preliminary hearing has been set for Aug. 11, Farha said.

Danielle McLaughlin is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of more than 10 grams of cannabis. She is scheduled to be in court Aug. 5.
