Musicals highlight 2010 Quincy Community Theatre schedule
Published: 10/24/2009 | Updated: 11/1/2009

Quincy Community Theatre's 2010 season, "From Screen to Stage," includes three musicals, two plays, a family theater production as well as several extra productions. STARadio and Comcast Spotlight are the 2010 Media Sponsors.

The season will open with "Some Enchanted Evening," a musical revue of Rogers and Hammerstein's best-loved works, such as "If I Loved You," "Shall We Dance," "There Is Nothing Like a Dame" and "It Might As Well Be Spring." The show runs March 11-14 and 18-21. It is partially sponsored by First Bankers Trust Co.

"Steel Magnolias" will be onstage April 30-May 2, May 6-9. It is the story of the close friendship of six ordinary Southern women who regularly gather at Truvy's Salon to share in the everyday events of life, as well as in its unexpected crises.

"All Shook Up" mixes a little bit of Shakespeare with a whole lot of Elvis Presley. Memorable Elvis songs include "Jailhouse Rock," "A Little Less Conversation," "Love Me Tender," "Fools Fall in Love," "Hound Dog," "Don't Be Cruel," and "Can't Help Falling in Love." "All Shook Up" plays July 22-25 and July 28-Aug. 1, and is sponsored by Knapheide.

"Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure" is set for Sept. 17-19 and 23-26. The world's greatest detective has seemingly reached the end of his remarkable career when a case presents itself that is too tempting to ignore. This production has all of the elements that fans of Sherlock Holmes have come to expect: danger, intrigue, wit, humor and surprise.

One of the most popular and successful musicals in recent memory, "Forever Plaid," is a deliciously goofy revue that centers on four young, eager male singers. Its program of beloved songs and delightful patter keeps audiences rolling in the aisles when they're not humming along to some of the great nostalgic pop hits of the '50s. "Forever Plaid" will be onstage Nov. 5-7 and 11-14. It is sponsored in part by Blessing Physician Services.

The family theatre production will be "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" Dec. 9-11 and 18-19. The key episodes of C. S. Lewis' beloved story parallels a much greater story of sacrifice and salvation.

Extra productions at QCT include February's student theater production, "Geppetto and Son," as well as the touring production, "An Evening with Lucille Ball." "Put the Nuns in Charge," a sequel to "Late Nite Catechism," will be onstage April 9-11. The student theater will also present "Romeo/Juliet" in June and David Thomas' "World of Magic" will be presented Oct. 16-17.

Season tickets are on sale now at the QCT Box Office. For more information, call 222-3209 or visit the Web site at www.1qct.org.
