Schoenenberger catches two TD passes, Hawks otherwise struggle in finale

ROLLA, Mo. -- One of the best pass-catching tight ends in Quincy University history finally got to show why he's been such a worthwhile target throughout his career.

Too bad it came after the Hawks' final game and final record were already decided.

Senior tight end Owen Schoenenberger caught the first two touchdown passes of the season Saturday, but not much else went right for the QU football team in a 63-16 loss to Missouri S&T in Great Lakes Valley Conference action at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.

The Hawks trailed 28-0 at the end of the first quarter and 42-0 before ever sustaining a drive.

Schoenenberger capped a five-play, 62-yard drive with a 15-yard touchdown reception with 6:25 to go in the first half. Quincy had 55 yards on 21 plays on its first six possessions.

Three of those drives ended with a turnover as sophomore quarterback Andrew Rund and freshman quarterback Trey Mosley each threw an interception and senior running back Chris Harris lost a fumble. Mosley's interception was returned for a touchdown.

The Hawks turned the ball over four times, giving them 19 turnovers in a six-game losing streak to end the season.

Missouri S&T led 49-7 at halftime and built the lead to 63-10 before Schoenenberger's final reception of his career was a 12-yard touchdown catch off a pass from Mosley.

Schoenenberger, a four-year starter at tight end, finished his career with 117 catches, 1,675 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Quincy was outgained 514-277 in total yards as Missouri S&T running back Deshawn Jones had 191 yards rushing and five touchdowns. QU senior running back Chris Harris had six carries for 31 yards in his final game, finishing his career with 2,567 yards and 33 touchdowns.

He ranks fourth in program history in rushing yardage and second in rushing touchdowns.
