Scouting the Warriors: Valle is making its ninth trip to the state championship game in the last decade, and its run of eight straight trips to the title game was snapped last season in a loss to Penney in the semifinals. The Warriors are looking for their 15th state title in program history. Quarterback Mason Skaggs leads the Warriors spread offense with 2,733 passing yards along with 30 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Tyler Blum is the leading receiver with 954 yards on 52 catches and 15 scores. Valle's only loss this season came to Lamar, which will play for the Class 2 championship this weekend.
Scouting the Panthers: Monroe City rolled through an undefeated season to reach a second straight state championship game. The Panthers here humbled last season by Penney in its first trip to the title game in 20 years. Most of those players are back for Monroe City, especially Clarence Cannon Conference Offensive Player of the Year Cole Pennewell. The senior fullback has 1,448 yards and 22 touchdowns. Running back Zach Osborn has 1,527 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns. Monroe City's defense has thwarted to spread offenses in the last two weeks by limiting Westran to 7 points in the quarterfinals and East Buchanan to 14 in the state semifinals.
