HANNIBAL, Mo. -- Families and Communities Together wants to remind people there is still time to enroll in 2018 health insurance.

The Affordable Care Act is in place for 2018, and almost everyone must have health insurance or pay a fee.

"We are encouraging people to make an appointment to determine whether they qualify for tax credits for Affordable Care Act marketplace health insurance plans," FACT Executive Director Tom Dugger said in a statement.

"Although insurance prices have increased, tax credits have also increased, which could still make the plans affordable. We are available to assist people through this process at no cost."

Open enrollment to buy health insurance at HealthCare.gov continues until Dec. 15, and the insurance plans purchased through the marketplace will start Jan. 1.

Buying health insurance through the ACA is advisable if someone doesn't get it through an employer or public program, such as Medicare or Medicaid, Dugger said.

"Last year, 8 out of 10 people got financial help to pay for their health insurance," he said. "Most people can get a plan for less than $100 a month."
