Several QHS, area wrestlers advance to Quincy Invitational quarterfinals

QUINCY -- Nine Quincy High School wrestlers and several area wrestlers advanced out of a round-robin format into the quarterfinals for the 49th annual Quincy Invitational Friday.

The round robin consisted of four pools with three wrestlers in each pool for every weight class. The top two wrestlers of each pool advanced to the quarterfinals.

At 160 pounds, Quincy's Hunter Yohn won all three of his matches to advance. Blake Peter (106 pounds), Hunter Carter (113), Matthew Peters (138), Thomas Culp (145), Kaleb Vahle (152) and Blake Poling (195) all won three matches. A.J. Miller advanced after winning two matches at 220 pounds, as did Joe Marquez at 152 pounds.

Quincy Notre Dame's Zach Haley won all three matches at 145 pounds, and teammate Catherine Steinkamp won two matches at 106 pounds to advance. Sam Schlegl (160), Jack Deters (170) and Aaron Hea (195) also advanced for QND.

Central's Zach Foote won three matches at 106 pounds. Evan Myers (126) and Chayse Houston (132) also won three matches. Clayton Boehler (138) and Trevor Rutledge (220) advanced.

Illini West's Santos Castillo won three matches at 160 pounds, and Drake Huss won three matches at 170 pounds. Brayden McGinity (106), Gabe Castillo (145), Michael Lord (152) and Ty Jackson (220) also advanced.

West Hancock's Chase Hartweg won three matches at 160 pounds.
