C-SC gives up 10 runs in seventh, loses 22-19

LINDSBORG, Kan. -- The Culver-Stockton College baseball team staged a furious rally on Monday before falling victim to another furious rally in a 22-19 loss against Bethany College.?The Swedes (9-7) scored in each of the first three innings to take a 9-0 lead. C-SC got its offense going in the top of the fourth with three runs, highlighted by a two-run home run by Edward Madera.

The momentum continued into the fifth inning, where the Wildcats used seven hits and took advantage of a pair of Bethany errors to score nine runs and take the lead. Jonny Damon led off the frame with a double and scored on a triple by Madera. Matt Kuhl then scored Madera with a double of his own to plate another run.

Two straight singles scored Kuhl, then three more runs scored on back-to-back fielding miscues by Bethany. T.J. Durfee and Damon then added run-scoring singles before Durfee scored on a wild pitch to cap the scoring.

C-SC (4-7) added runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings to push its lead to 14-10, but Bethany responded with 10 runs in the bottom half of the seventh. The Swedes collected seven base hits, and the Wildcats committed four errors in the inning.

The Wildcats added two runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth but could not complete another comeback.

Eight players had hits for C-SC. Damon led the Wildcats with four hits, while Sam Riley drove in five runs.

Kole Watson was given the loss for C-SC after allowing eight runs in the seventh inning, though none of them were earned.
