PULASKI, Tenn. -- The Culver-Stockton College softball team scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to beat Martin Methodist 9-6 in the second game of a doubleheader on Tuesday. The Wildcats lost 4-3 in the opener.
With the score tied 6-6, Samantha Powers pinch hit for Natalie Rothmeyer and led off the eighth inning with Mickey Wood already on second base because of tiebreaker rules. Powers got down a bunt single, then advanced to second on a throwing error that also allowed Wood to score and give the Wildcats (2-7) the lead.
Katie Kroll singled, and a sacrifice bunt put both runners in scoring position. Cassie Burris then hit a two-run single into right field that pushed C-SC's lead to three runs.
McKena O'Donnell recorded the final three outs to cap off a four-inning relief appearance. Starter Michalene Collier lasted four innings and allowed three runs on four hits and a pair of walks.
Martin Methodist (8-6) scored three times in the second and once in the third for a 4-0 lead in the opener. C-SC rallied in the seventh inning for three runs on two hits, two walks and an error, but the Wildcats left the bases loaded when Wood grounded out to end the game.
