LOUISIANA, Mo. -- The Louisiana Bicentennial Committee is seeking volunteers and vendors to take part in the town's 200th anniversary celebration June 30 through July 4.

Cindy Blaylock, committee co-chairman, said the committee is encouraging civic groups, businesses, families and individuals to get involved.

"The more people we have, the better the celebration," Blaylock said in a news release.

She said she doesn't expect volunteers to have to "work all day" to help make the bicentennial celebration a success.

"We're just asking for a few hours of their time," she said.

A variety of activities and events are being planned for the five-day celebration, and plenty of help will be needed.

In particular, Blaylock said, volunteers are being sought for the following duties:

º Saturday, June 30: Placement of stages, trash cans, barricades, signs, banners and sound system. During the parade, six people will be needed at the staging area, two at the high school entrance and two for parking. Two people are needed to register vendors, two more to assist in setup, two to work shifts helping with stage events, and one to serve as host or hostess to work with entertainers.

º Sunday, July 1: A host or hostess is needed to work with the Ministerial Alliance and manage the day's events, and a host or hostess is needed to work with vendors.

º Monday, July 2: A host or hostess for the day is needed to help coordinate organizational and business events and work with the Louisiana Chamber of Commerce and the Unified Economic Development Council. The committee is encouraging businesses and organizations to use this day to celebrate their contribution to the community by holding open houses, sidewalk sales and other special events.

º Tuesday, July 3: A host or hostess is needed to work with the Kids' Day coordinator.

º Wednesday, July 4: A parade coordinator is needed along with four people at the staging area and two at Main and Georgia. Also needed is a host or hostess for vendors at the riverfront.

In addition, Blaylock said vendors are particularly needed for June 30 and July 1. Spots at the high school grounds are available for $25 to $50 a day, depending on size. Applications are available at louisiana200.com or by writing to Louisiana Bicentennial, 202 S. Third St., Louisiana, MO 63353.

Volunteers can sign up on the website or by calling 573-754-5921 and leaving a message.
