Chuck and Sandra Bennett of 2305 E. County Road 1800, Carthage, are observing their 60th wedding anniversary, and also Mr. Bennett's 80th birthday which is Aug. 11, with a celebration at Lake Hill Winery.
Mr. Bennett and the former Sandra Ehmen were married Aug. 10, 1958, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Golden.
Mrs. Bennett is a daughter of the late Aldred and Minnie (Totsch) Ehmen. Mr. Bennett is a son of the late Charles H. and Minnie E. (Martin) Bennett.
Mr. Bennett served as a Methodist minister for six years, a teacher at the University of Illinois in Urbana, and had a 20-year career in law enforcement. Mrs. Bennett taught home economics for 35 years in Elgin, retiring in 1994. They then moved to Hancock County to be closer to their mothers and his aunt.
They have enjoyed annual trips to Colorado and Mr. Bennett has enjoyed elk and antelope hunting in the fall. They made several trips to Europe and made contacts with relatives in northern Germany and in Bavaria in southern Germany.
Since their return to Hancock County, they have been active in the Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod). They are members of St. Paul Church in Bowen, where he serves as an elder.
He enjoys his antique John Deere tractors which he parades and participates in moldboard plowing and tractor rides.
The couple met at a dancing school in Bowen in 1956.
