School Board wins high marks for Iles School Dedication

To The Herald-Whig:

My wife and I attended the dedication ceremony of the Col. George J. Iles Elementary School on North 12th on Aug. 4. My wife, being a lifelong resident of this community, and many others in attendance who knew and grew up with the Iles family, greatly appreciated the remarks from Superintendent Roy Webb, other school officials and Mayor Kyle Moore.

The information shared with the community about Iles' life and his years flying and serving our country with the Tuskeegee Airmen was very informative even to those of us who had some knowledge of the Redtail Squadrons.

The community turnout for this dedication was tremendous, and we would hope the same will occur at the dedications of the other schools. We appreciate the thoughtfulness of the Quincy School Board in dedicating this new elementary school in Iles' name. As one of his family members said, "He wasn't an educator, but he loved for everybody to be educated."
