Both Payson Seymour and Illini West both won three out of five matches on Saturday at the Western Illinois Volleyball Invitational in Macomb.
Illini West defeated Lewistown 21-25, 25-16, 15-6, Bryon 25-13, 25-17, and Bushnell-Prairie City 25-20, 25-7, but fell to Rockridge 25-20, 25-12 and Metamora 25-27, 25-16, 15-6. Gracie McDowell led the Chargers (5-2) with 42 kills for the day.
Payson Seymour defeated Bushnell-Prairie City 25-9, 25-8, and Rock Island 25-22, 25-23 in pool play but lost 23-25, 25-22, 18-16 to Monmouth-Roseville. The Indians tied the third set at 16 on a kill by Tori Schieferdecker, but two hitting errors ended the match.
The Indians finished the day with a 25-21, 25-21 victory over Rockridge and a 25-20, 15-25, 16-14 loss to Washington. Payson Seymour was serving for the match in the third set at 14-13 but gave up the next three points. Cassie Eidson had 102 set assists in the tournament. Riley Epperson had 10 or more kills in three of the five matches.
QHS loses twice: Kayla Hoener had six kills in the first match and three kills in the second match for the Blue Devils, who lost 25-15, 25-17 to Normal West and 25-22, 25-11 to Sacred Heart-Griffin in Normal. Alexis Wolf had eight kills in the two matches for QHS (1-2).
