Freshmen lead QHS girls to victory in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. -- Three freshmen led the Quincy High School girls cross country team to victory in Tuesday's Jacksonville Invitational.

The race was shortened to two miles instead of three due to hot conditions. The Blue Devils' top runner, Lydia Kurfman, was held out of the race for precautionary reasons, Quincy's Asia Jackson took second in a time of 13 minutes, 58 seconds. Anna Schuering was third (14:02), and Natalie Goerlich was fourth (14:22). QHS finished with 22 points, besting Jacksonville's 27 points and Quincy Notre Dame's 53 points.

Ella Borrowman had the top finish for QND, taking fifth (14:28).

QHS took second in the boys race with 37 points, just three behind Jacksonville. Freshman Fiker Rosen won the race in a time of 10:20, and senior Noah Fleer was second (11:01). QND took third with 49 points, paced by Sam Schlegl's fourth-place finish in a time of 11:06.
