Carthage library sponsoring Masters' 'Spoon River Anthology' rendition

CARTHAGE, Ill. -- Illinois poet Edgar Lee Masters' "Spoon River Anthology" will be brought to life Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the First Baptist Church, 601 Main St., in Carthage.

International performer Paddy Lynn, theater director Jon Lynn and musician Patti Ecker will act out the anthology. The Lynns will portray characters, performing 30 of the poems in costume. Their renditions will be interspersed with folk and popular music of the period performed by Ecker.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Carthage Public Library District and funded by the Illinois Humanities Road Scholars Speakers Bureau.

Carthage Public Library District is offering the program in honor of the Illinois bicentennial and as a kickoff to the library's 125th anniversary celebration.
