New signals going in at 12th and Broadway

QUINCY -- Traffic along Broadway will be restricted to one eastbound and one westbound lane and the center turn lanes starting at 7 a.m. Wednesday.

City Engineer Jeffrey Conte said the outer lanes of traffic will be closed for about three weeks while new traffic signals are installed at the northeast and southwest corners of the intersection. Tractor-trailer rigs had caused damage to the signal poles several times in the past.

"We're just moving the traffic signal poles back for the safety of the public," Conte said.

The replacement project will cost about $120,000 from motor fuel tax funds.

The 12th and Broadway intersection is among the busiest in Quincy and police have urged drivers to watch for lane changes as other motorists get close enough to see that the outside lanes will be closed.
