Carter Boyer connected with Lincoln Gooding for an 11-yard touchdown with 3:09 left in the game, and Nick Vorhies scored the two-point conversion run to help the Illini West football team rally for a 20-18 victory over Knoxville on Friday night at Fuzz Berges Field in a Prairieland Conference game at Carthage, Ill.

The Chargers (3-0) forced a punt and took possession of the ball with about six minutes remaining in the game. A fourth-down catch by Gooding and a fourth-down penalty against the Blue Bullets helped keep the drive alive.

"It was one of those classic drives, 3 yards and a cloud of dust," said Illini West coach Lyle Klein, whose team is ranked sixth in Class 2A.

Knoxville moved the ball on the ensuing possession to the Illini West 40 but gave up the ball on downs with 1:16 left to play.

The Blue Bullets rushed for 253 yards, with Case Hennenfent totaling 130 yards and two touchdowns. The Chargers had 153 yards on the ground but also had 70 yards passing, while Knoxville misfired on all seven of its passes. Boyer also hooked up with Gooding for a 15-yard score in the second quarter.

"It was two grind-it-out teams, and they were sold out to stop the run," Klein said. "That's what Carter brings to the game."

Hennenfent scored two second-quarter touchdowns to make the score 12-12 at halftime.

Knoxville (1-2) took the 18-12 lead midway through the third quarter on a 3-yard run by Seth Clay.

Vorhies led Illini West with 114 yards on 19 carries.

"We're not going to complain about the win, but if it went the other way, we're still coming to work next week," Klein said. "But with a win like this, maybe the boys are finally getting some of the accolades they have worked hard for."

Central 42, Jacksonville Routt 0: Noah Strohkirch scored the game's first three touchdowns as the Panthers, ranked fourth in Class 1A, raced to a 26-0 lead by halftime in Jacksonville.

Central's Collin Sally recovered a fumble and returned it 27 yards for a touchdown as time expired in the first half. Central's defense held Routt (2-1) to less than 60 yards of total offense.

Strochrich finished with 75 yards on 13 carries, while Cole Williams had 126 yards on 12 carries for Central (3-0).

Cole Williams also did damage on the ground for the Panthers (3-0), rushing for 126 yards on 12 carries.

Pleasant Hill 64, North Greene 28: Kodiak Rodgers and Isaiha Rodgers carried the way for the Wolves as they accounted for eight of Pleasant Hill's nine touchdowns.

After the Spartans grabbed a 7-0 lead, the Wolves bounced back as Isaiha Rodgers scored on runs of 2 and 40 yards. Kodiak Rodgers scored the Wolves' next three as they built a 42-20 halftime lead.

Isaiha Rodgers finished with 147 yards rushing and completed 6 of 8 passes for 36 yards. Kodiak Rodgers rushed for 116 yards.

Brown County didn't the end zone until Cameron Zimmerman ripped off a 62-yard touchdown run in the opening minutes of the second half. Hayden Howell scored on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Zimmerman finished with seven carries for 74 yards.
