Hawks edged in physical battle on road

MARQUETTE, Mich. -- The Quincy University men's soccer team lost its second one-goal decision in as many matches during a 3-2 loss to Northern Michigan Sunday afternoon.

The Hawks (1-3) are off to their worst start since the 2006 season when they lost their first five games.

The game was physical as six yellow cards were issued, four of those coming in the second half. Three were against the Hawks.

QU trailed 2-0 until Aubrey Reis scored his third goal of the season when he converted an assist from Scott Prsha in the 63rd minute.

Just 26 seconds later, the Wildcats restored a 3-1 lead when Sam Popp scored off an assist from Edgar Astorga. It was the second assist by Astorga, who scored the first goal of the match in the 40th minute.

QU scored its second goal when Kyle Fraser took an assist from Cooper Reis and scored in the 76th minute.

The Hawks had a chance to score at the end of regulation, but Hayden Tucker's header was saved by Northern Michigan keeper Patrick Restum as time expired.

Adam Whybrow made five saves for QU.

QU will open Great Lakes Valley Conference play Friday when it plays Rockhurst at Kansas City, Mo.
