Prep roundup: Youngblood has four hits for Monroe City

The Monroe City softball team used a six-run third inning to rally from an early deficit Tuesday and win 8-3 over Hannibal.

Avery Lake singled in two runs for Hannibal (2-4) in the second inning, but Monroe City (4-1) took control in the third inning. Lauren Youngblood had a two-run single to highlight the outburst, with teammates Carly Youngblood, Bailee Hays and McKenzie West also driving in runs for the Panthers. Lauren Youngblood had four of Monroe City's 12 hits. West allowed three runs on four hits and struck out 12 to get the win.

Silex 10, Mark Twain 0: Molly Stanek had a double, triple and two RBIs to lead the Owls in an Eastern Missouri Conference game at Center. Halle Mueller worked four scoreless innings on the mound and had seven strikeouts for Silex, and she also had two hits.

South Shelby 15, North Shelby 0: Diane Mayes had a single, a double, a home run and five RBIs for the Lady Birds at Shelbina, Mo. Sadie Wear earned the victory, pitching three innings with eight strikeouts while allowing just two hits.

Canton 3, Highland 1: Three two-out runs in the bottom of the third propelled the Tigers.

Tegan Burbridge doubled to drive in Abbey Hultz for the game's first run. Hunter Collins then drove in Burbridge and Laken Hugenberg. Lauren Merrell's single in the top of the seventh drove in Abby Johnson for Highland's only run, and the tying run came to the plate. Maranda Sparrow and Amber McGee grounded out to end the game.

Jarvis scatted seven hits in a complete-game effort for the Tigers (4-0). Carli Scifres and Taylor Bringer had two hits each for the Cougars (1-6).

Palmyra 13, Clark County 1: Lauren VanTress pitched a one-hitter as the Panthers rolled to a Clarence Cannon Conference victory. Palmyra scored seven runs in the first inning. Megan Stone's two-run triple highlighted the outburst. Morgan Ingram hit a two-run homer in the second inning for Palmyra (4-1, 2-0 CCC). Aubry Boulware's RBI double was the only hit of the game for Clark County (1-4, 0-2).

Knox County 12, Scotland County 1: The Eagles benefitted from eight errors by the Tigers to win a Lewis and Clark Conference home game. Tadym Mason delivered a two-RBI double in the third inning for the Eagles (4-1, 1-0 LCC). Kinsley Johnson had two hits and scored three runs. Khloe Hamlin had two of the three hits by the Tigers (2-4, 0-1 LCC).

Wright City 12, Louisiana 8: Wright City overcame a 6-1 deficit to force extra innings and scored four runs in the top of the eighth to win. Melissa Locke hit a two-run homer in the eighth, and Kenidie Duft later delivered a two-out, two-run double. Autumn Castagna had four hits and three RBIs for Louisiana (0-6), and Maria Gutierrez hit an RBI triple in the first inning and a two-run double in the second.
