Shelbyville woman seriously injured when struck by vehicle

SHELBYVILLE, Mo. -- A Shelbyville woman was seriously injured Wednesday night after being struck by a vehicle.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said that Karen J. Claussen, 71, exited a 2000 Chrysler Town and Country on County Road 223, 5 miles west of Shelbyville, at 9 p.m., without placing it in park. The patrol said the vehicle rolled backward and struck her.

Claussen was taken by Salt River Ambulance to University Hospital in Columbia.

The patrol was assisted by the Shelby County Sheriff's Department and a conservation agent.
