LABELLE, Mo. -- A Lewis County man faces a charge of sexual misconduct involving a child after he reportedly believed he was meeting a 13-year-old girl in a park to engage in sexual activity.
The Lewis County Sheriff's Department said it arrested James Starr, 28, of LaBelle, Oct. 2 near the city park in LaBelle.
The Sheriff's Department said the Kirksville Regional Computer Crimes Unite began investigating Starr's social media profiles in July after it received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. A social media network reported to that organization about possible illegal activity in a profile reportedly traced back to Starr.
An Adair County arrest warrant was issued for Starr with bond set at $5,000 cash only.
A Lewis County search warrant also was issued for Starr's home in LaBelle, where several computer-related items were seized.
The Northeast Missouri Narcotics Task Force assisted in the investigation.
