QUINCY -- Kristen Ritterbusch feels prospective John Wood Community College students will enjoy what they see Thursday.
That's when potential JWCC enrollees will take part in the annual Trail Blazer Day. High school students and their families are invited to visit the campus and learn more about academic programs and other activities.
"Trail Blazer Day is our way of inviting everyone to see what their community college is like," said Ritterbusch, who was recently promoted to director of admissions.
The event is scheduled for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at JWCC's 1301 S. 48th campus.
Students and their families not only will tour the campus but be provided information about scholarships, financial aid, the college's 30 academic majors, learn where JWCC graduates transfer or begin employment and have the opportunity to interact with current students.
Dinner will be provided to prospective students and their families.
"Many students feel like they know a lot about John Wood because it is in their backyard," Ritterbusch said. "When they take the time to visit the campus, (they are able to get acquainted with) our faculty, academic programs, facilities and student life."
Ritterbusch, who coordinates admissions operations, previously served as assistant director of public relations at JWCC for seven years. Before that, she worked as a project and business manager at Rokusek Design.
JWCC recently opened fall classes with an enrollment of 1,900. Along with its South 48th Street site, the college offers four other locations -- the Workforce Development Center at 4220 Koch's Lane, Southeast Education Center in Pittsfield, Mount Sterling Learning Center and the Agricultural Education Center in Perry.
Reservations for Trail Blazer Day can be made at jwcc.edu/trailblazerday or by calling the JWCC admissions office at 217-641-4337.
