District roundup: Raiders' Stoneburner hits for cycle

Presley Stoneburner hit for the cycle in leading the North Shelby softball team to a 15-4 victory over Marion County on Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the Class 1 District 9 Tournament at the Cotton Bowl in Canton, Mo.

Stoneburner finished 4 for 5 with three runs scored and four RBIs as the Raiders piled up 14 hits.

She singled and scored on Taya Wilcox's one-out double in the first inning. In the third, she had an RBI triple to tie the game at 2 and scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball. After striking out swinging to lead off the fourth, she had an RBI double with two outs in the fifth. She capped the cycle with a two-run home run with one out in the seventh.

Wilcox went 3 for 5 with two doubles and Hannah Wahl was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Karissa Kennedy, Delaney Straus and Katrina Johnson had two hits apiece for Marion County.

Kaylin Bales earned the victory. She allowed four runs with three strikeouts and nine walks. Halle Keilholz struck out nine and walked nine for the Mustangs.

North Shelby will face top-seeded Canton at 5 p.m. Thursday in the district semifinals.

Meanwhile, at Flower City Park in Palmyra, third-seeded Palmyra and fourth-seeded Macon advanced to Thursday's semifinals of the Class 2 District 6 tournament.

Macon knocked off Clark County 9-4 as Katelyn Hawkins' RBI triple in the fifth inning staked the Tigers to a 5-1 lead. The Indians (8-12) cut the deficit to a 6-4 in the sixth as Alexis Ellison hit a solo home run and Aubrey Boulware belted a two-run double. Macon responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

The Tigers (15-9) will face top-seeded Highland (12-9-1) at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Lauren Van Tress struck out 12 in six innings to earn the victory for Palmyra in a 6-0 shutout of South Shelby.

Palmyra (10-13) will face second-seeded Monroe City (15-3) at 6 p.m. Thursday.
