QUINCY -- The attorney for the Quincy man charged in the January death of an infant said he will seek an expert witness in the case.
Ryan Parker said Wednesday in Adams County Circuit Court he will file a motion requesting funds to hire the expert for the defense of Travis J. Wiley.
Wiley, 30, faces three counts of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated battery to a child in the Jan. 22 death of an infant girl, who is identified in court records by initials.
He is accused of shaking the infant on Jan 20, and she died two days later at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis from shaken baby syndrome.
Wiley was arrested June 29 after a six-month investigation. He pleaded not guilty to the charges Aug. 15.
His case is not set on a jury docket, and Wiley will return to court Dec. 5 for a status hearing.
He continues to be held in the Adams County Jail on $5 million bond.
