HANNIBAL, Mo. -- One person was injured in a crash involving several vehicles Friday on the Mark Twain Memorial Bridge.

The Missouri Department of Transportation said eastbound traffic on Interstate 72 and U.S. 36 was closed because of the crash, and that drivers would need to take alternate route for a few hours.

The Illinois State Police said a 2012 Freightliner Sprinter van driven by Sam J. Douglas, 23, of Quincy, Ill., was heading east at 4:40 p.m. on I-72 when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a 1997 Toyota 4Runner driven by Kaiser D. Falk, 22, of Plainville, Ill. Police said Falk had exited his vehicle.

Falk was taken by Marion County Ambulance Service to Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

Douglas was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Assisting at the scene were the Hannibal Police Department, the Hannibal Fire Department, the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Pike County Sheriff's Department.
