Prep roundup: Monroe City wins tourney opener by 70

C.E. Talton scored 26 points and led the Monroe City boys basketball team to an 81-11 blowout victory over Marion County on Monday night in the first round of the Monroe City Tournament.

Monroe City held Marion County to just one field goal in the first half and led 55-5 at the intermission. Marion County had only two players score, and Sheldon Whetstone scored nearly all of the Mustangs' points with a nine-point effort.

South Shelby 67, North Shelby 50: Parker Pfannenstiel's 37 points led the way for the Cardinals in the first round of the Monroe City Tournament. Pfannenstiel scored 24 first-half points as the Cardinals led the Raiders 42-24 at halftime. Pfannenstiel's hot hand continued as he scored eight more points in the third quarter, extending the Cardinals' lead to 21. Kirby Latimer led the Raiders with 15 points.

Clark County 45, Knox County 39: Brandon Kracht made five 3-pointers and scored 19 points to lead the Indians to a victory in Kahoka, Mo. Kracht scored 12 points, all 3-pointers, in the second quarter as Clark County took a 31-21 lead into halftime. Both teams struggled offensively in the third quarter, scoring a combined nine points. Trent Klocke led the Eagles with 15 points.

Western 62, Griggsville-Perry 24: The Wildcats led 36-16 at halftime and cruised to victory in the first round of the North Greene Spartan Classic in White Hall. Griggsville (0-6) scored two points in the third quarter and eight points in the second half. Carson Dell led Western (5-2) with 13 points. Kyle Colgrove and Preston Wellman had 11 each for the Wildcats. Tate Kunzeman led Griggsville-Perry with eight points.

Brown County 67, Father McGivney 34: The Hornets jumped to a 20-6 lead in the first quarter in an opening round victory at the North Greene Spartan Classic. Brown County led 43-16 lead at halftime. Camden Schmitz led the Hornets (2-1) with 15 points, followed by Brady Bergman with 14. Jalen Johnson added 10.

Brussels 61, Pleasant Hill 12: The Wolves were shut out in the second half and lost in the first round of the North Greene Spartan Classic. The Raiders led 38-12 at halftime.
