PALMYRA, Mo. -- The Marion County Sheriff's Department said Friday that a St. Louis man was arrested this week on a forgery charge.

Rashad J. Clayton was arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail, where he is being held on $25,000 bond.

The sheriff's department said authorities received reports that a suspect was spending counterfeit $20 bills at several Marion County businesses. An investigation led to Clayton's arrest.

The sheriff's department said "numerous" counterfeit $20 bills were recovered along with misdemeanor amounts of marijuana.

The Palmyra Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted with the investigation.
