Prep roundup: Tigers go OT to pick up first victory

The Canton girls basketball team made the first basket of overtime and never surrendered the lead, holding South Shelby for a 59-58 victory Tuesday night in Shelbina, Mo.

The Lady Birds' Meredith O'Neal forced overtime when she knocked down a runner as time expired to time the game at 47. After taking the lead, the Tigers were able to hold onto it by making 6 of 9 free throws in the extra period as the Lady Birds saw Dianne Mayes foul out with three minutes to play and O'Neal foul out with 1:30 to go. O'Neal finished with 29 points.

The Tigers led by four before Katie Mitchell's 3-pointer brought the Lady Birds within one. Canton (1-4) was able to run out the clock before South Shelby could foul. All four of Canton's scorers finished in double figures as Tegan Burbridge scored 17 points, Lauren Frazier had 16, Laken Hugenberg finished with 15, and Abby Jarvis had 11.

Mallory Wood added 15 points for South Shelby.

Knox County 39, Salisbury 34: The Eagles trailed by seven points at halftime, but rallied to take the lead in the fourth quarter to pick up the victory in Salisbury, Mo.

Alyssa Peavley went 5 of 6 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter and Tadym Mason scored six points while the Eagles held the Panthers to three field goals over the final eight minutes. Sidney Miller lead Knox County (2-1) with 13 points.

West Hancock 51, Fort Madison 43: A double-digit first-quarter lead gave the Titans a cushion that lasted all night in the victory in Warsaw, Ill. The Titans (9-4) held the Bloodhounds (0-6) to two field goals in the first quarter and took a 17-4 lead. Myah Gray led West Hancock with 13 points.

Monroe City 72, Mark Twain 33: Hallie Dyer scored 11 of her 13 points in the first half as the Panthers built an insurmountable lead in the non-conference game in Monroe City, Mo.

Jada Summers led the Panthers (3-1) with 15 points, and Bailee Hays added 12. Emma Ross led Mark Twain (3-3) with eight points.

North Shelby 45, Westran 15: The Raiders held the Hornets to five points off a single field goal in the first half and jumped to a 16-point lead in Shelbyville, Mo. TPresley Stoneburner led North Shelby with 12 points, while Lilly Cook finished with 11, and Hannah Wahl added 10.

Scotland County 48, Schuyler County 20: Kaylyn Anders had nine points to lead the Tigers to the victory in Memphis, Mo. Scotland County led 17-7 early after getting seven first-quarter points apiece from Hannah Feeney and Kiley Bradley-Rob. The Tigers held the Rams (2-5) to one field goal in the second quarter and lead 27-10 at halftime.

Marion County 51, Higbee 43: Delaney Straus and Halle Keilholz each had 15 points as the Mustangs won in Philadelphia. Marion County (2-3) trailed 25-20 at the half, and cut the deficit to one heading into the fourth quarter. Sadie Spratt scored seven of her 12 points in the fourth quarter to help Marion County outscore Higbee 20-11.

Bowling Green 47, Louisiana 21: Caitlin Gloe led the Bulldogs with nine points in the loss in Louisiana.
