QUINCY -- Another store in the Quincy Mall is closing.

Bowtree Inc. owner Michael Ray told The Herald-Whig's news-gathering partners at WGEM that he plans to close the mall location at the end of this month.

Ray said the mall store has been operating for 15 years, but he plans to consolidate the store with his other business location at 6410 Broadway.

"We're leaving the mall because we're expanding," Ray said. "We have two facilities -- this one and the one out on East Broadway -- and we feel like being split up, we're not serving our customers the way we like to serve our customers."

Bowtree is the latest of several businesses that have left the mall recently or plan to leave, including Sears, Bergner's, Finish Line and AMC Theaters.

Mall Manager Mike Jenkins told WGEM he would like to fill the empty spaces with local businesses.

"For a regional shopping center like the Quincy Mall, really the local entrepreneur is the lifeblood of a mall such as our own," Jenkins said.
