ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- Seven Hannibal wrestlers have advanced to Saturday's semifinals of the Class 3 District 2 tournament at St. Charles High School.
Tyler Leonard picked up two pins on Friday to reach the semifinals at 132 pounds. He pinned McCluer's David Brandon in 1:34, then pinned Westminster's Hayden Turley in 2:38. Leonard (37-4) meets Washington's James Johnson in the semifinals.
Gavin Morawitz pinned Parkway North's Tyler Brown in 22 seconds in his first match at 138 pounds, then decisioned Colby Detchemendy of Fort Zumwalt South 9-1. Morawitz (28-10) meets Xavian Jackson of St. Charles in the semifinals.
Tanner Leonard also picked up two pins to reach the semifinals at 145 pounds. He needed just 14 seconds to pin Parkway North's Matthew Hayes, then pinned Warrenton's Zach Alexander in 2:28. Leonard (36-4) meets Louis Obermark of Washington in the semifinals.
Garrett Ruby needed less than a minute to win both of his matches at 152 pounds. He pinned Fort Zumwalt East's Easton Schniepp in 55 seconds and Yousef Ahman from Parkway Central in 30 seconds. His semifinal opponent is Fort Zumwalt South's Nicholas Genovese.
Trevor Wilson received a first-round bye, then needed only 11 seconds to pin Parkway Central's Phillip Povanich at 160 pounds. He meets Parkway West's Brayden Eddy in the semifinals.
Vernell Hawkins also received a first-round bye, then needed only 20 seconds to pin Kolby Conkin of Fort Zumwalt South. He meets Luke Eaton of Fort Zumwalt East in the semifinals.
Chase Kirby is in the semifinals at 220 pounds after getting a first-round bye and then decisioning Warrenton's Brady Weir 14-6. He meets Evan Bragee from Fort Zumwalt South in the semifinals.
